How many longhorns should we buy?
This question is one we get a lot and unfortunately are not able to answer. There are so many factors that go into picking how many cows your land can support. We recommend to talk to other ranchers in your area or your county extension agent to see what stocking rates are common in your area and go from there.
How do you work longhorns?
Longhorns can be worked similarly to other cattle in terms of moving, sorting and other basic handling techniques. Most calves less than a year old can be run through traditional head gates or cattle equipment, but full grown animals with larger horns are not able to be put through traditional cattle equipment. We use a specialty chute system that is designed to work with Longhorns and we also have working pens that are set up with larger gates and alleyways to accommodate their horns.
What is the temperament of longhorns?
Longhorns are generally pretty docile and curious animals. We have some that are in our back pocket and others that keep their distance but are not scared of us. At our ranch we want to make sure that our animals are easy to be around and work with, and want their offspring to be the same. Each one has their own unique personality and the more time you spend with them the more you get to know their personality.
Do you offer bull leasing?
Yes we do offer bull leasing. If you are interested in leasing one of our bulls please send us a request and we will be happy to discuss further.
Do you offer delivery?
Yes, if it is within a reasonable range, we are able to deliver them ourselves. If you are too far for us to deliver, then we will work with the best haulers in the industry to get your animal to you safely.
Do all your windmills pump water?
Most of our windmills are over 100 years old. Although they are fully restored and have the capability to pump water, none of our windmills currently do. One of our future projects is to turn our rebuilt Aermotor 702 from the 1940s into a fully functional mill that will pump water for the cows in the back pasture once we get the well drilled.
Do you sell, buy, or take on windmill restoration projects?
Yes, we do occasionally have windmills that we offer for sale. If you have a windmill that is able to be restored, we are also able to take on restoration projects. If you have a windmill or parts that you have been wanting to get rid of, let us know as we also buy windmills to restore or to use as parts for other projects.
Why do you have a ranch pig?
Lucy is our potbelly pig that runs with the Longhorns. She holds her own, especially when it comes to protecting her pile of cubes. She keeps the little ones company in the weaning pen and is always a ranch favorite. When you come to visit make sure to bring her some treats and she will show you her tricks and show you around.
